Fitment Guide
🔧 Number Plate Fitment Guide
Fitting your new plates shouldn’t be complicated — and we’re here to make sure it’s not.
Whether you’re installing standard plates, 3D Gel, or 4D Acrylic, this guide will walk you through how to safely and securely fit your number plates at home.
Later on, we’ll be adding a step-by-step video tutorial to this page to make things even easier.
🧰 What You’ll Need
Depending on your chosen fitment method, you’ll need:
Option 1: Sticky Pads (Recommended)
-
Vision Plates sticky pads (available with your order or separately)
-
Clean cloth
-
Isopropyl alcohol or cleaning wipes
Option 2: Screw Fitment
-
Screwdriver or electric drill
-
Number plate screws and caps
-
Optional: Drill bit for existing holes (if required)
🚗 Step-by-Step: Sticky Pad Fitment (No Drilling)
Step 1: Clean the surface
Thoroughly clean the area where the plate will be fitted. Use alcohol wipes or soapy water to remove dirt, grease, or wax. Let it dry completely.
Step 2: Prepare the sticky pads
Apply 3–5 sticky pads evenly across the back of the number plate. Avoid the very edges to prevent visibility.
Step 3: Align carefully
Hold the plate level and align it with the existing plate position or pre-marked area.
Step 4: Press and hold
Firmly press the plate onto the surface, holding for at least 30 seconds. Apply even pressure across the full plate.
Step 5: Leave to bond
Avoid washing your vehicle or exposing the area to moisture for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to fully cure.
🔩 Step-by-Step: Screw Fitment (Use Existing Holes Where Possible)
Step 1: Check alignment
Align your new plate to the existing holes. Never drill into the characters or reflective surface — only into the black border area or backing.
Step 2: Drill (if needed)
If you’re reusing old screws and need new holes, carefully drill using a 5mm drill bit. Use low speed to avoid cracking.
Step 3: Secure with screws
Insert the screws through the plate and into the mounting holes. Add the coloured screw caps for a clean, sealed finish.
Step 4: Avoid overtightening
Tighten screws just enough to hold the plate securely — overtightening can crack acrylic or distort gel characters.
❗ Important Tips
-
Do not remove the protective film from 4D letters before fitting.
-
Never drill through characters or reflective backing — this voids warranty and may affect legality.
-
Don’t use double-sided tape alone unless it's high-grade automotive adhesive (our pads are rated for all-weather use).
-
Plates must be fitted securely to be road legal.
📦 Can I Use My Old Screws?
Yes — but we recommend using new screws and caps to avoid rust or damage to your new plate. Always use the correct screw length for your vehicle’s plate holder.
